Daffodils…
Dandelions…
Rhubarb…
And a black snake.
Happy Ssssssssspring!
Warning: if you’re afraid of snakes (or pictures thereof), you might not want to scroll too far down.
Hubby and I are fond not only of cats, frogs, and tadpoles, but we’re also fond of snakes. So when we got a call from a friend, telling us that a big black rat snake was on his porch and he wanted hubby to come catch and relocate it, we were ready to roll (note: black rat snakes are completely harmless, unless you’re a rat
).
But a surprise awaited us at our friend’s house — three, to be exact. Instead of finding one black snake, we found three! For the purposes of transport, we put them in a big can to take them home.

We decided to measure the snakes, and in the process of measuring them, we transferred them to a larger plastic container. One snake was five and a half feet long — a big snake! The second snake was 4’1″ long, and the third snake was one inch less than four feet long. Here they are in the plastic container.

Then we took them to the woods and released them. But before we did, hubby got pictures of me with the largest snake.

And here’s a close-up of my serpentine friend.

Bye, snakes — it was nice meeting you. Have happy lives in the beautiful forest!
