Searching for Avalon

Cruel and cold, the reign of the kings has me bound
Beyond the mist is a land few have found
A shift in the mind can change how we see what is real
Build it together and we can start to heal

What can I do, all life suffers in this place
Where can I go, no warmth shines upon my face
What can I do, all life suffers in this place
Where can I go, no warmth shines upon my face
Free me…free me… free me…free me…

Watching and waiting while hate and intolerance grow
Anticipating a much-needed change
See through the falsehoods, the haze, and the apathy
A new horizon lies still unrevealed

hike2

Ship asea, she stands at the prow
Looking ahead, she leaves the here and now
Closing her eyes, unclenching her fists,
Beseeching the sky, she parts the mists
Close behind her the fog will be
But safe and free, she waits for you and me.

Thomma, a haunting piece, beauty–sadness. Well done (((((my friend)))))). x0

Thank you so much, ((((((Kimmi)))))! That piece is interesting — I wrote it, lyrics and music, for piano, over a decade ago, but it just keeps coming ’round and ’round in many different ways, not the least of which its relevance to my novel-in-progress! :)

Agree with Kimmi. I feel it in my soul and in my body. Well done. Someday I hope to hear it played.

Thanks, Leah! I am wanting to create and offer audio files online soon. And “Searching for Avalon” has long been one of my favorite songs I’ve written.

WOW!! Gorgeous, TLG! You from the Romance Age?

A shift, a shift, a shift. A shift in mind. That really does make all the difference, doesn’t it, Kind Lady?

Thanks, sweet Jannie. :) Yes, a shift, a shift, a shift — a shift in the mind is key to so very much, to so much more than I could have ever realized and continue to realize each and every day.

Sending love and hugs, my friend — xoxoxo

Beautiful – great pace and rhythm. I love this type of stuff. Bring on the audio TL.

Thank you, Gabrielle! I’m absolutely ITCHING to get back to my piano. This RSI has caused serious piano withdrawal! And hoping to get audio files up soon. I want it to be a priority, along with my writing activities, over the coming year.

    Lovely!

    You wrote that TL??
    Wow. Gave me shivers.
Now – tell us all how you celebrated your birthday!!
(and if you didn’t do anything special, make something up, k? We’ll never know *hee*)

Thanks, Wylie! Yup, I wrote “Searching for Avalon” over ten years ago (it’s actually lyrics to a song I composed for piano), but it’s amazing how it dovetails with my current work-in-progress. :)

I had a lovely birthday — a birthday hike, and much chocolate consumed, heh.

Thank you, Snaggle! A wonderful compliment. I’m still waiting my my RSI to heal enough for me to play the piano, but I’m doing okeydokey typing these days. But when I do get back to my piano, the first song I’ll play will be “Searching for Avalon.” :)

I love the entire piece and each line is synonymous to the events of the day. But this is my favorite part.

“Ship asea, she stands at the prow
Looking ahead, she leaves the here and now
Closing her eyes, unclenching her fists,
Beseeching the sky, she parts the mists
Close behind her the fog will be
But safe and free, she waits for you and me.”

The imagery in this is beautiful. Particularly since I’m working with fog and mist at present.

The quality of your lyrics and poems are remarkable. You’re voice and piano outstanding. I had to go look on my MP3 player to see if I had that one already. Nope, I don’t. But I would like to.

    Great ((((((((hugs, KS)))))))))

Hi, Dorothy! Thank you so much for your sweet words, (((((((((KS))))))))). “Searching for Avalon”, though it’s well-branded in my mind and heart and I play it regularly, is among the group of my recordings that got lost. Arrrgh. I’m wanting to do completely fresh recordings of all my songs soon, and “Searching for Avalon” will have particularly high priority because of its tie-in to my WIP Heart’s Chalice.

In the last stanza, which you cited, the music shifts to a different key and to a different mood — that of realization of strength and empowerment. I think you’d dig it. :D

This is gorgeous. I would love to hear the music.

Thanks so much, Squirrel! I’ve been AWOL from the blog ’cause we got a huge snowstorm (rare for our area) and it knocked out power and running water. Just got it back this evening. In the midst of partying like it was 1799 (ha!!), I got some wonderful pictures of snow on the mountains. And re: music, I’m really wanting to work on recording my songs this year and making them available online.

Hiya, Jannie! Cool that you know where Avalon is. Now I won’t have to search for it! ;) (never been there, lol.) xoxo

Thank you, Brad! And a wonderful Christmas to you.
