Hop on over to Ann Pino’s site for her newly-released novel Maelstrom. She and the band are having a giveaway — sign the guest book over there, and you’ll be in the drawing for a copy of the novel, a copy of the book of Maelstrom short stories, or a band t-shirt!

Bald-Faced Liar or Creative Writer?
My friend Debbie Mumford tagged me for the Creative Writer Blogger Award. Thanks, Debbie! This is a fun one. I am to tell six outrageous lies about myself, and one truth. Can you figure out which statement is true? Guess, guess! I dare you.
- My great-grandfather was John Dillinger.
- I was an award-winning saxophonist in elementary school.
- In college, I majored in math and considered becoming a cryptanalyst.
- For some years, I had a pet tarantula named Ellie Mae.
- I’m right-handed.
- I can play piano with my toes.
- I enjoy bungee-jumping.
EDIT: I’ve revealed the truth in the comment section.
Were you right?

In writing news, I officially “won” NaNo (this morning, I validated my word count on the NaNo site and earned my purple bar). I broke 76K last night, but Heart’s Chalice, my novel-in-progress, isn’t nearly finished: I’ll likely be drafting through December.
The first draft will be quite long, but I’d rather have a big chunk of clay to work with in sculpting, honing, and polishing than too little. Drafting a story is only the beginning. Then comes the rewriting.
I continue to be amused by the extent to which my characters are pushing me around. The structure of Heart’s Chalice is holding up well, though, and my characters’ pushiness is resulting in a cornucopia of unexpected delights: plenty of surprises, and an overall ratcheting-up of conflict, angst, and tension as I write my way ever-closer to the climax.
In other words… I’m having a blast!
Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers, and Happy Weekend to all!
Yearbooking
I discovered Yearbook Yourself from my friend Jannie Funster‘s blog, and I just couldn’t resist seeing how the Ballicai (otherwise known as cats) and I would look sporting new-old hairstyles. What do you think? Which year suits us the best?
